Kwara Aviation College Gets NCAA’s Approval

The desire of the Kwara State Government over the years to establish an Aviation College came to fruition yesterday as the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), formerly presented the commercial pilot training certificate to the State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed at Government House, Ilorin.

With the presentation of the Certificate by NCAA, the Ilorin International Aviation College, which is the first private aviation college in the country, is now licensed to commence training of pilots in the State.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Governor Ahmed described the occasion as a fulfilment of the state government’s effort to partner with the private sector under a Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) arrangement for the development of aviation industry in the country

His words: "Today marks another milestone in our determination to partner with the private sector to promote the growth and development of the aviation industry in Nigeria. The need for this arose from obvious deficit in the aviation personnel ready to drive this sector.

"It is therefore a thing of joy for me to be here this morning to receive a certificate that will enable us commence training in our newly established Aviation College."

According to him, the country has serious shortage of manpower in the aviation industry which he said was largely due to the presence of only the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, Zaria, being the only aviation training institute in the country and the huge financial cost of training pilots abroad.

Governor Ahmed reiterated the commitment of his administration to embark on all projects that will enhance the socio-economic development of the state like the International Aviation College.

He congratulated all the development partners involved in the establishment and take-off of the aviation college as well as the entire people of the state for the wonderful feat, expressing hope that it will raise the economic status of the State and its people as well.

Presenting the pilot training certificate to the Governor, the representative of the Director General of NCAA, Mr Emmanuel Ogunbanbi congratulated Ahmed on his first 100 days in office, describing the presentation of operational certificate to the Ilorin International Aviation College as memorable, being the first private aviation college in Nigeria.
