The Airport’s overall load factor decreased 0,6pp to 77% in April.

In consolidated terms Lisbon Airport registered 4.324.660 passengers (+3,4%), 42.999 aircraft movements (+0,9%) and 27.997,7 tons of cargo (-7,0%).

One factor that may have contributed negatively to the slight decrease in the number of passengers in April was that in 2011 the Easter school break started in the 3rd week of March while in 2012 the whole Easter break effect was registered in April.

While legacy carriers registered -2,6% in the number of transported passengers low cost carriers had a strong growth of +18,9% and charter traffic maintained the decreasing trend registering -31,1,%. It is worth mentioning the positive effect of the opening of easyJet’s base, on the 19th April, and the 6 new routes operated by low cost carriers: Amsterdam, Bordeaux, Copenhagen, Oviedo and Venice by easyJet and Nantes by Transavia. April was also the first complete month of Vueling’s operation to Paris Orly, also contributing to the low cost segment growth.

The 2 biggest airlines operating in Lisbon registered relative growth above the airport’s performance and consequently increased their market share. TAP Portugal had 760.359 passengers (+2,0%) and a market share of 58,9%, while easyjet with 130.801 (+14,9%) saw its market share increase to 12,1%. These 2 airlines represented in April 71% of Lisbon airport’s total passengers.
