Small plane crashes at Cambridge airport

The small plane of a Pownal, Vt., couple flipped over shortly after take-off Saturday at the small Chapin Field Airport in Cambridge, landing on its roof and injuring a passenger.

In a written release from the Washington County Sheriff's office, police said one passenger, Louise Joyce, of Jackson, N.J., suffered a non-serious shoulder injury and was transported to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, Vt.

The plane, a small four-passenger 1965 Cessna 172, was turned over by a strong crosswind at approximately 4 p.m., as it was taking off, according to its pilot, Bruce Faller, of Pownal.

The plane flipped and landed on its roof in an adjacent cornfield. Police said there were three people on board at the time, including Faller and his wife, Wendy Faller, and the couple's acquaintance.

Joyce was transported by the Cambridge Rescue Squad. Police said the Cambridge Fire Department also assisted at the scene. Police said the Federal Aviation Unit was notified and will have a representative inspect the aircraft at a later date.
